Please Note: The model number of your telephone can usually be found on a label stuck on the bottom of the phone.

Over the long years of it's domination of the Australian communications industry, Telstra has sold many types of telephone. These have ranged from a variety of analogue home and pabx handsets through to the complex Commander keystations.

Commander Keysystems

Due to the large range of these systems, I have created a separate page showing the compatibility of Commander telephones.

SP817BB Big Button Corded Telephone

To fit a headset to these telephone, you must replace the handset with your headset. Your telephone can be programmed for Headset Mode, which allows you to make and receive calls, simply by pressing the SPKR button, when using your headset.

To program your telephone for Headset Mode:

  • Lift the handset
  • Press STORE button
  • Press VOL UP, press VOL DOWN, press MUTE
  • Press * for Headset Mode or press 0 for Normal Mode
  • Replace the handset

Note: These telephones have unique handset wiring.

Plantronics Corded:
Any P, H or HW series headset and a Vista cable. Note: The H or HW series headset performance is borderline. An alternative is an M12E amplifier and a H or HW series top.

Plantronics Wireless:
The CS 500 series and Savi headsets MUST be set to "D"

Jabra/GN Netcom:
Any headset with an A cord (part no: 8800-01-11).

ADD-COM:
Any headset and a Reversed cord - number 1016.

Polaris:
Any headset and an amp cord.

Sennheiser:
Any headset and a CSTD 08 cord.

Long Range 9750CC DECT 360 Cordless

Please Note: Only the 9750CC is headset compatible - other Long Range 9750 models are NOT headset compatible.

Plantronics:
Any HW series headset and a Polaris cable.

Plantronics Wireless CS540, CS510, CS520, CS530, CS Legend & Savi 710, 720, 730, 740:**
Switch position 1, Receive 3, standard telephone cord wiring.

Jabra/GN Netcom:
Any headset with a standard cord (part no: 8800-01-01).

Sennheiser:
Any headset and a CSTD 01 cord.

ADD-COM:
Any headset and a Blue cord.

Polaris:
Any headset and a Direct Connect cord. This combination can result in soft transmission

GE AU29391 and GE (Thomson Telecom Aust) AU29490GE1-A

Plantronics:
Any P series headset and a Polaris cable. The transmission provided by H or HW headsets is too soft

Plantronics Wireless CS540, CS510, CS520, CS530, CS Legend & Savi 710, 720, 730, 740:**
Switch position 1, Receive 3, standard telephone cord wiring.

Jabra/GN Netcom:
Any headset with a standard cord (part no: 8800-01-01).

ADD-COM:
Any headset and a Blue cord.

Polaris:
Any headset and a Direct Connect cord. This combination can result in soft transmission

Sennheiser:
Any headset and a CSTD 01 cord.

GE AU29490GE1 (also known as GE 29490)

Please Note: that the wiring on these handsets is "polarity sensitive" (i.e. each transmit wire MUST go to the specific side of the RJ11).

Plantronics:
Any P, H or HW series headset and a reversed Polaris cable.

Plantronics Wireless CS540, CS510, CS520, CS530, CS Legend & Savi 710, 720, 730, 740:**
Switch position 1, Receive 3, standard telephone cord wiring.

Jabra/GN Netcom:
Any headset with an R cord (part no: 8800-01-06).

ADD-COM:
Any headset and an MPS switch to reverse the cord wiring.

Polaris:
Any headset and a reversed Direct Connect cord.

Sennheiser:
Any headset and a CSTD 24 cord.

Telstra Touchfone 200, 300, 400, T1000C, T1000C and Executive Telephones

These telephones have unique handset wiring.

Plantronics Corded:
Any P, H or HW series headset and a Vista cable. Note: The H or HW series headset performance is borderline. An alternative is an M12E amplifier and a H or HW series top.

Plantronics Wireless:
The CS 500 series and Savi headsets MUST be set to "D"

Jabra/GN Netcom:
Any headset with an A cord (part no: 8800-01-11).

ADD-COM:
Any headset and a Reversed cord - number 1016.

Polaris:
Any headset and an amp cord.

This Telstra telephone has a dedicated headset port. Simply plug the headset in and use it.

Plantronics:
Any P, H or HW series headset and a Vista cable.

Plantronics Wireless CS540, CS510, CS520, CS530, CS Legend & Savi 710, 720, 730, 740:**
Switch position 1, Receive 3, standard telephone cord wiring.

Jabra/GN Netcom:

Switch position 1, Receive 3, standard telephone cord wiring.

Jabra/GN Netcom:
Any headset with an standard cord (part no: 8800-01-01).

ADD-COM:
Any headset and a standard cord - number 1008.

Polaris:
Any headset and a direct connect cord.

Sennheiser:
Any headset and a CSTD 01 cord.

M5216 P-Phone ACD and M6320

These telephones have a dedicated headset port. Simply plug the headset in and use it.

Plantronics Corded:
Any HW series headset and a Polaris cable. Note: The HW series headset transmission performance may be a bit soft. An alternative is an A10-16 amplified cable and a HW series top.

Plantronics Wireless:
The CS 500 series and Savi headsets MUST be set to "A". Transmission is 5, Receive is 2.5.

Jabra/GN Netcom:
Any headset with an standard cord (part no: 8800-01-01).

ADD-COM:
Any headset and a standard cord - number 1008.

Polaris:
Any headset and a direct connect cord.

Sennheiser:
Any headset and a CSTD 01 cord.
