GN Netcom GN8000 Headset Amplifier

GN Netcom GN8000 headset amplifier

The GN8000 Headset Amplifier (also known as the GN 8000 MPA multipurpose amplifier) connects GN Netcom headsets to just about any modular single or multi-line phone and offers ergonomically designed volume, headset/handset, and mute controls.

GN Netcom headsets can be connected to and work with many telephones via a simple Direct Connect cord. However, the electronic design of some telephones requires an amplifier to match your headset to that telephone. The GN 8000 MPA amplifier converts your telephones' wiring and transmitter impedance to match that of your headset.

The GN 8000 MPA amplifier requires batteries (initially supplied with your GN 8000) or an optional plug-in power adaptor. The batteries need replacing about every six months - your amplifier will cause your headset to "beep" when the batteries are getting weak. Always use good quality alkaline batteries for maximum life.

NEVER LEAVE THE BATTERIES IN YOUR AMPLIFIER WHEN NOT USING IT FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD.
The batteries may leak and damage the amplifier.

Features

  • Easy to install and use. Adapts almost all telephones for use with a variety of GN Netcom headset styles.
  • Easy to adjust. Separate controls allow independent adjustment of outgoing and incoming volume.
  • Easy One-Button selection of headset or handset.
  • Easy to hear and be heard - voice compression ensures consistent sound volume.
  • Easy on the ears, too. The MPA provides a degree of hearing protection that Direct Connected headsets do not have.
  • Has a built-in headset stand which lights when you are on a call.

Connections

The GN8000 amplifier has 4 points for connection of cables, all at the rear. From LEFT to RIGHT they are:

  • A small flat lead for connection to your telephone's handset socket.

  • A socket for an optional power supply.

  • A Lightweight Quick Disconnect cord that connects to your headset. This feeds under your amplifier to the front.

Controls

Your GN8000 amplifier has 3 controls positioned on the top of it:

  • LEFT is a mute button for those times that you want to make a discreet enquiry with an associate.

  • RIGHT is the headset/handset selector that you use to switch between your headset and telephone handset.

  • BOTTOM is a slide switch that enables you to adjust your headset receive level to a comfortable volume.

Under the top cover are 2 controls:

  • A small blue rotary control to enable you to change the level of your outgoing speech volume.
  • A 3 position battery save switch (A,B or C). If left idle for two minutes, the amplifier is placed into "sleep" mode.
    • A Battery save feature is ON. GN8000 is activated by the incoming voice.
    • B Battery save function is ON. GN8000 is activated by both the incoming and outgoing voice.
    • C Battery save feature is OFF.

'Hidden' controls

GN Netcom GN8000 'hidden' controls More controls exist under the cover on the left hand side of your amplifier (see picture). These are usually "set and forget". The slider switch is used to set your headset to telephone compatibility - select from A to I depending upon your telephone.

The other exposed hole in the picture, above right, is where your batteries go. This cover can be tight but simply press towards the rear and it will open. Remember to put your new batteries in correctly - the polarity of each battery is embossed on the plastic immediately below each battery hole
